** This might be a good idea as if the list of articles keeps growing, the page may become too long and unmanageable. It would also make navigation easier as a user reading an article from a particular news outlet could easily click on a link to find other articles from the same source. It would also be great to somehow sort the articles by year or date. One way might be to also subcategorize by year and/or add links to the articles published in a particular year to the page for that year. [[User:Peterf|Peter F.]] 04:43, 28 Jun 2005 (CDT)

*** I think this makes sense. I propose an article from the Mirror from 1990 be categorized using '''<nowiki>[[Category:The Mirror (Press)|Mirror, The (Press)]][[Category:1990 (Press)]]</nowiki>''' --[[User:Monger|Monger]] 07:20, 28 Jun 2005 (CDT)

****The method Peter F. implemented of listing press by year under the [[:Category:Timeline|timeline]] articles is great, IMO. Do we still wanna categorize by press outlet, or is that more trouble than it's worth? I don't think this issue is anything urgent. --[[User:Monger|Monger]] 00:03, 19 Jul 2005 (CDT)

***** I think we should still categorize by press outlet (but only for publications which have more than one article archived). To make it useful for navigation, we could make the publication title in the article a link to the press outlet subcategory so a reader can easily find all the articles for that particular publication on one page. Similarly, they can click on the year in the date and easily find all the press coverage for that year. [[User:Peterf|Peter F.]] 04:55, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)

****** Now that I tried it out, I'm not sure about press outlet subcategories only for those which have more than one article. Perhaps all press outlets should have a subcategory so the organization is consistent. Also, do we still want to keep the manual TOC the way it is? Anyways, I've added one subcategory.  I'll wait on the rest until I get some feedback on whether the subcategory naming convention ( <nowiki>[[Press:Press outlet]]</nowiki> ) I used is acceptable.[[User:Peterf|Peter F.]] 05:26, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)

****** After looking at it again, I realize the naming convention I used is not that great because it would result in all the press outlet subcategories being sorted under P in the parent category. So I'm going to change it to just the press outlet name (i.e. <nowiki>[[Category:Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki> instead of <nowiki>[[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki>). I do think we should keep the manual TOC as is in the Press category. [[User:Peterf|Peter F.]] 18:07, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)

******* IMO, <nowiki>[[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki> or <nowiki>[[Category:Arizona Daily Star (Press)]]</nowiki> might be better than simply <nowiki>[[Category:Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki>. If we do use <nowiki>[[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki>, categorizing such cat.s using e.g. <nowiki>[[Category:Press|Arizona Daily Star]]</nowiki> would make them autosort under the correct letter rather than everything being placed under 'P'. --[[User:Monger|Monger]] 18:38, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)

******** That's an excellent solution. Sorry, I didn't see your post until I had already created a few subcategories with only the press outlet name. Before I do the rest, let me know if I should use <nowiki>[[Catgeory:Press Outlet(Press)]]</nowiki> or <nowiki>[[Catgeory:Press:Press Outlet]]</nowiki>. My vote would be for the latter one but either one is fine. [[User:Peterf|Peter F.]] 19:09, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)

  • What do you all think about subcategorizing the press section by outlet? --Craven de Kere 03:39, 28 Jun 2005 (CDT)
    • This might be a good idea as if the list of articles keeps growing, the page may become too long and unmanageable. It would also make navigation easier as a user reading an article from a particular news outlet could easily click on a link to find other articles from the same source. It would also be great to somehow sort the articles by year or date. One way might be to also subcategorize by year and/or add links to the articles published in a particular year to the page for that year. Peter F. 04:43, 28 Jun 2005 (CDT)
      • I think this makes sense. I propose an article from the Mirror from 1990 be categorized using [[Category:The Mirror (Press)|Mirror, The (Press)]][[Category:1990 (Press)]] --Monger 07:20, 28 Jun 2005 (CDT)
        • The method Peter F. implemented of listing press by year under the timeline articles is great, IMO. Do we still wanna categorize by press outlet, or is that more trouble than it's worth? I don't think this issue is anything urgent. --Monger 00:03, 19 Jul 2005 (CDT)
          • I think we should still categorize by press outlet (but only for publications which have more than one article archived). To make it useful for navigation, we could make the publication title in the article a link to the press outlet subcategory so a reader can easily find all the articles for that particular publication on one page. Similarly, they can click on the year in the date and easily find all the press coverage for that year. Peter F. 04:55, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)
            • Now that I tried it out, I'm not sure about press outlet subcategories only for those which have more than one article. Perhaps all press outlets should have a subcategory so the organization is consistent. Also, do we still want to keep the manual TOC the way it is? Anyways, I've added one subcategory. • After looking at it again, I realize the naming convention I used is not that great because it would result in all the press outlet subcategories being sorted under P in the parent category. So I'm going to change it to just the press outlet name (i.e. [[Category:Arizona Daily Star]] instead of [[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]]). I do think we should keep the manual TOC as is in the Press category. Peter F. 18:07, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)
              • IMO, [[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]] or [[Category:Arizona Daily Star (Press)]] might be better than simply [[Category:Arizona Daily Star]]. If we do use [[Category:Press:Arizona Daily Star]], categorizing such cat.s using e.g. [[Category:Press|Arizona Daily Star]] would make them autosort under the correct letter rather than everything being placed under 'P'. --Monger 18:38, 20 Jul 2005 (CDT)
