A Biblical term used within The Family to negatively construe worldly gain such as money and other riches. While it is used in a similar context outside of The Family to caution against cupidity it took on additional significance within The Family in that members were encouraged or required to shun basic ambitions such as getting and holding a job.
The following Bible verse was used to reinforce The Family's positions against system jobs.
Matthew 6:24
24. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
