In addition to perceived spiritual inadequacies, outsiders are sometimes shunned for perceived physical uncleanliness. While most Family members don't have a conscious justification for doing so, the perception of Systemites as physically unclean reinforces the spiritual shunning of the outside world and is manifested in many ways, including the following:
- Members are forbidden from having sex with non-members.
- Historically, dishes and utensils used by Systemites were washed separately.
- Clothes used out in "the System" were to be removed promptly and washed. Please see "System clothes".
