Cults tend to polarize, whether intentionally or not and The Family was no exception. The appelation of "enemy" was a villification applied liberally to anyone who was critical of the group or its practices.

"Enemies" were often cursed and prayed against, and misforture that would befall them was seen as a result of the prayer and cursing.
