Bad apple

Bad apple - a term used in The Family to indicate an individual who threatens the hegemony and who is a negative influence on others.

This term is derived from the popular idiom "One bad apple spoils the barrel" and it took on special meaning within the cult as a rhetorical bludgeon to rebuke undesired beliefs and practices.
