Christopher David Owens is a former member of the Children of God cult and current leader singer of the "Girls" indie rock band from San Francisco, California. While a member, he reportedly appeared in children's music videos distributed by The Family.

Band information

The New York Times compared the band's sound to Elvis Costello, Buddy Holly, and the Beach Boys.[1]

Critical Acclaim

Pitchfork Media rated their single "Hellhole Ratrace" as one of the top 500 songs of the 2000's.[2] Their 2009 debut album Album received a rating of 9.1/10 from Pitchfork.[3].

Touring

As of mid-2009, the band is on tour in Europe and will return to the U.S. in late 2009 for a national headlining tour. They are well known for the use of drugs whilst making their first album, though in a recent interview [4] lead singer Christopher suggested this is now a more occasional indulgence.
